Inner Wheel District 10
About Us
History
Inner Wheel was founded in Manchester by Mrs Margarette Golding in 1924.

Please visit our Association website for more details.

It was not until April 1932 that District 10 was formed with 4 clubs Bristol, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Weston Super Mare.

Over the next 30 years District 10 grew steadily and had in the late 1960s 41 clubs.  These clubs spanned an area approximately from Tewkesbury, across to Leominster down to Monmouth and on to Chepstow, across the Severn Estuary to Taunton travelling east to Warminster before turning north to encompass Swindon, Cirencester, Stroud, Gloucester and Cheltenham to name but a few!  When you think that motorways were only in their earliest stages, travel between clubs would have been far more difficult than today.

At the end of 1971, in order to follow Rotary, District 10 was divided. Twenty one clubs remained in District 10.  These clubs were joined by a further 5 from District 6, namely Evesham, Malvern, Pershore, Worcester and Worcester South.  The remaining 20 clubs from District 10, along with clubs from District 11 and 17 formed the new District, which we now know as District 20.  This historical redefining of District 10 is why, to this day, there remain very strong links between Districts 10, 6 and 20, with annual meetings of the District Executive Committees and visits to each other’s Rallies.

Sadly three of the original four clubs in District 10 have disbanded but Inner Wheel Club of Gloucester, formed in 1931, still thrives today and we all thoroughly enjoyed celebrating with them their 80th birthday in 2011.

Who can join
Inner Wheel is not an open society and membership is largely, but not exclusively, confined to those with a family relationship to Rotary.

To see the eligibility requirements, please visit our Association website.

How to join
If you would like to join a Club please visit our District and Clubs page to locate a conveniently close Club and make direct contact with the Club's Secretary or President. If their contact details are not shown, or if you need further help, please contact the District Secretary whose email address is shown on both the Executive and Links pages of this website.

District 10
Our District stretches from Worcester, Leominster and Hereford in the north to Clevedon, Bristol and Marlborough in the south.

Each Club meets monthly and plans its own programme of speakers. We also enjoy meeting up for coffee mornings, ten pin bowling sessions, and trips to places of interest and to the theatre. We have an annual District Rally, a Fellowship Lunch and an Overseas Rally, and many of us look forward to the Association Conference, to be held during 2, 3 & 4 April 2012 in Bournemouth.

In addition, we organise many fund-raising events - murder mystery evenings, running occasional charity shops, quizzes, skittles, soup kitchens and frugal and pancake lunches, to name a few. These events always give us lots of fun and friendship while raising money to help our chosen charities locally, nationally and overseas. Although working independently, you’ll also find us supporting our respective Rotary Clubs in their efforts to help those less fortunate.
